Iulius Suite is in the middle of a territory full of history, tradition and typicalities. Spending your holiday here means getting surrounded by plenty of opportunities to live this exciting land. Have a boat trip or a dive into the deep blue sea of Polignano a Mare, let the caves of Castellana – the largest of Europe – enthrall you or admire the astonishing trulli of Alberobello. You will find yourself just a few steps away from Itria Valley, the mysterious Castel del Monte, the Sassi of Matera and Salento.
The first town to visit is our Conversano, city of art and culture, a stunning lookout over the surrounding territory. Have a walk across Largo della Corte, in the shade of the Norman castle and you will enjoy the pleasant breeze coming from the nearby sea.
A small town of pre-Roman origins, it enjoyed centuries of splendour, controlling a vast county stretching from Atri to Nardò. The political and religious power left us magnificent monuments: the megalithic walls, the aforementioned castle with the cylindrical tower and the main tower, the majestic Cathedral, the Monastery of San Benedetto and the charming small church of Santa Chiara. To fully experience our history we suggest you to visit the art gallery with the canvases of Finoglio’s Jerusalem Delivered and the museum with archeological evidences.
Conversano is rich in religious and playful events.Discover the rituals of the Holy Week or get involved in the suggestive festival of Madonna della Fonte.
Or choose to enjoy our town during Novello sotto il Castello, an event dedicated to food, wine and music which takes place every year in the second week of November.
Along the country roads you will get in touch with the colours of our landscape, back and forth through hills, almond and cherry trees and centuries-old olives. Have a break near one of the ten lakes of Conversano, sinkholes rich in wildlife.
After visiting our town you can discover Polignano a Mare, a quaint small town just 9 km away from Conversano. Polignano overlooks the sea with its caves and grottoes.
If you are looking for thin white sand we suggest you the lively beaches of Monopoli – Capitolo, whereas, if you love adventure, choose the renowned caves of Castellana.
Of course you must visit Alberobello, just 25 km from Conversano. A whole town designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
